60+ departments at UNILAG. LagSciPrep has expanded from 45 to 60+ departments, crossing another major milestone. The platform is now serving students across the majority of the university's departments. Here's what this expansion means for the platform and the students who use it.
When I first built LagSciPrep, I focused on science departments — Cell Biology and Genetics, Physiology, Biochemistry. That made sense. I was a science student. I understood the pain points.
But what's happened in the past few months surprised me. Students from departments I never expected started signing up. Engineering. Arts. Social Sciences. Even some professional faculties.
Beyond Science — What Changed?
The expansion wasn't something I actively pushed. It happened organically, and here's why:
-
🏆
IED 2026 Recognition — The award brought campus-wide attention. Students from every faculty wanted to see what the fuss was about.
-
📱
Cross-Department Word of Mouth — Science students told their friends in other departments. The platform spoke for itself.
-
🎯
Universal Need — Every student needs to prepare for exams. The CBT format works for everyone, not just science students.
-
🔄
Adaptive Content — The question bank grew to include more general subjects that work across departments.
The Campus-Wide Impact
Crossing 60+ departments is significant because it means LagSciPrep is no longer just a science tool. It's becoming a campus-wide resource.
Think about what this means:
-
🎓
Critical Mass — We're approaching a point where most UNILAG departments have at least some students using the platform.
-
📊
Diverse Feedback — We're getting insights from students with different academic backgrounds, helping us improve the platform for everyone.
-
🤝
Cross-Faculty Connections — Students from different departments are connecting through shared learning experiences.
-
📈
Sustainable Growth — The platform is no longer dependent on a single faculty or department for its user base.
"When you build something that works, users will find you — even from places you never expected."
What This Means for the Future
This expansion changes how I think about LagSciPrep's future. The roadmap just got more interesting:
-
📚
Department-Specific Modules — Creating tailored content paths for different departmental needs while keeping the core CBT experience universal.
-
🏛️
Faculty Leadership Boards — Establishing department representatives to help guide content development and user engagement.
-
🌐
Campus Integration — Working with faculty administration to potentially integrate LagSciPrep into official departmental preparation programs.
-
🎯
Interdisciplinary Features — Building features that help students learn across departmental boundaries.
To the 60+ Departments — Thank You
To every department now represented on LagSciPrep — thank you. You proved that good educational tools transcend disciplinary boundaries.
To my original science departments — Cell Biology and Genetics, Physiology, Biochemistry — you started this movement. Your early adoption made everything that followed possible.
To the new departments — Engineering, Arts, Social Sciences, and others — welcome. You're expanding what this platform can be, and I'm excited to build features that serve your specific needs while keeping the core experience valuable for everyone.
"60+ departments. And we're just getting started."
What's Next
The goal isn't just to add more departments. It's to serve every department we're in so well that students in the remaining departments demand to be included too. It's to build a platform that becomes part of UNILAG's academic fabric.
My name is Jephthah. I'm a developer, a founder, a 100-level student at UNILAG.
I build things that grow. And apparently... they grow faster than I expect.
